Not the best start to the day

Uhhh, let's hope the Rockets don't f--k up tonight the same way the Texans f--ked up their first round pick today. That was just... I don't even have the words. The Texans may have just made Matt Millen look smart by comparison.

Ugh.

Wow. Chill out. I know you're smarter than Rick Smith, Gary Kubiak, and Alex Gibbs but maybe they know what they're doing. Gibbs loves the guy and sees him as a starting LT for a decade. We also got another starter (the 3rd rounder) by moving down. It's a good thing you're such a football expert, maybe you should tell Alex Gibbs what he should do from now on.

And for the "It was a reach" argument, he was going to go in the early second. We probably tried to trade again but when that didn't materialize we went with our LT of the future.

Good pick.

Oh, yeah, we only reached 45 spots to get a guy.

Plus, Alex Gibbs is neither a scout nor the GM. He's a coach. I think we've learned from the NBA that coaches are rarely good talent evaluators.

And I'm just bummed that we didn't get a CB (replace Petey) or a DE to bookend Mario.

I'm going to trust the GM and the coach on this one, but I find it funny that people toss out stuff in the vein of "You're not a coach or GM so you can't know what you're talking about". That's just silly, I guarantee you that I could put together a better team than Isiah Thomas did, but he was a coach AND a GM, your title does not dictate competency and lack of a title does not dictate lack of competency. And in the NFL, when there are FAR more 1st round busts than guys that make it, questioning your GM and coaches decision is pretty standard fare.

I think we will get a quality CB in the 3rd. The Texans brass made the decision that they could get a good CB, running back, or d-end in the 3rd or later but they obviously didn't feel that way about tackle. I know John McLain is a dumbass but he had Brown going 23 overall in his mock and I've seen several others that had him in the 20's or 30's. Brown is the guy they wanted at 18 and they were able to trade back and still get him. O-line has been a problem forever and if Smithiak is right(and I have no reason to think they are wrong, their draft history is great) it will turn into a strength.

I think Kubiak and Smith have done enough over the last 2 seasons to earn the benefit of the doubt.

All of that said, it would have been nice to get Mendenhall.

It would have been nicer if Arizona didn't take Rodgers-Cromartie. Damn them.

I think we made a pretty solid decision if not pick... even if we reached 45 spots, lets not forget we would not have been able to get him in the next 45 spots because we had no second round pick. so we traded down and got two extra picks out of it
